House Manager – Caerhays Castle, St Austell, Cornwall
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week, including some weekend and evening work
Accommodation: available if required
Salary: Negotiable, depending on accommodation

Caerhays Castle is seeking an organised, proactive, and personable House Manager to join our dedicated team. This is a varied and rewarding role working closely with the principals, a small household team, the wider Estate team, and visiting guests. A genuine love of dogs and flexibility around the needs of the household are essential.

Caerhays Castle is a privately owned, listed property set within renowned spring gardens. The principals reside on-site year-round. The estate opens to the public during the spring season and hosts shooting parties throughout the winter.
Applicants should be experienced in managing rotas, supporting staff, and communicating with guests in a professional and welcoming manner. Strong organisational and administrative skills are essential, as is the ability to adapt to changing demands with a calm and proactive approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Overseeing the smooth daily running of the household and coordinating with staff.
• Managing Health & Safety compliance, including risk assessments and staff training records.
• Overseeing fire and security systems, including regular testing and liaising with service providers.
• Taking a proactive approach to maintenance, including project management and annual planning.
• Supporting conservation of the property’s contents and staying informed on best practices.
• Working closely with household staff and maintaining strong communication with Estate departments.
• Managing guide rotas during the spring season and arranging additional staff for events.
• Supporting hospitality and events, including front-of-house duties and coordination with the marketing team.
• Handling purchasing for the household.
• Providing occasional cooking when the chef is off duty.
• Caring for the dogs when the principals are away.

Requirements
• Experience in a similar role.
• Excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and spreadsheets.
• Friendly, outgoing, and adaptable approach.
• Full driving licence (essential due to location).
