The Gardens are open to the public from the 12th February – 16th June 2024.

As a direct result of lockdown (and the absence of normal funerals and memorial services) we have received requests from those who have enjoyed the gardens to commemorate their relatives and loved ones by planting a memorial tree here in their memory. Some have wanted to inter the urn or ashes of their loved ones under the memorial tree itself.

This is something which Caerhays Gardens are delighted to encourage and promote now and on into the future.

Plant a tree as a memorial at Caerhays

You can select the tree from the Burncoose website or catalogue or we can select an appropriate tree for you after discussion. We can also arrange a printed memorial plaque inscribed as you wish and mounted on a stone or steel rod. An appropriate spot with a commanding view or a more hidden and private location can then be discussed. Planting needs to take place in the spring or autumn planting seasons with the family present or not as you so wish.

The end result will then be many decades of watching and enjoying your commemorative tree growing and flowering away here at Caerhays.

So what would this cost? The cost of a half standard sized (6-8ft tall) tree ranges from £65 to £85. Planting materials and the plaque itself will cost around £30-40 (more if mounted on granite).

We would also ask that those who wish to plant a memorial tree in the gardens also make a similar donation to our small parish church, St Michael Caerhays, which is always short of funds for maintenance and repair.

Please do contact us if you want to discuss this with us further.
